Press ReleaseANDOVER DENTIST RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS MASTERSHIP FROM ACADEMY OF GENERAL DENTISTRY CHICAGO (July 2007) – The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) is pleased to announce that Richard Hopgood, DMD, of Andover, Massachusetts received the prestigious Mastership Award during the commitment to excellence in dental education. Held at the AGD’s Annual Meeting & Exhibits on June 30 in San Diego, Dr. Hopgood accepted this award along with more than 175 other recipients. The Mastership Award is the highest honor available in the AGD and one of the most respected designations in the profession. This accomplishment meets the highest criteria for professional excellence. To accomplish this, Dr. Hopgood completed 1,100 hours of continuing dental education in the 16 disciplines of dentistry, including 400 hours dedicated to hands-on skills and techniques. As a recipient of this award, Dr. Hopgood has joined over 2,200 members of the dental community who understand that great smiles and good oral health for their patients are the result of going above and beyond basic requirements. “This is an outstanding accomplishment for Dr. Hopgood,” says AGD President Vincent Mayher, DMD, MAGD. “By completing the rigorous requirements to become a Master, Dr. Hopgood goes above and beyond basic licensure requirements in his state to keep his practice on the cutting edge. He takes extra dental education to provide his patients with the very best in dental care. This award truly distinguishes Dr. Hopgood from others in the dental community.” Dr. Hopgood graduated from Tufts New England Medical Center in 1978 and currently practices dentistry at 296 Lowell Street in Andover, Massachusetts. In addition to the AGD, Dr. Hopgood is a member of the American Dental Association, Massachusetts Dental Association, American Equilibration Society, New England Masters Study Club, and the Merrimack Valley Dental Association. Dr. Hopgood celebrates 25 years at his current location this year. He has been married to wife Patricia for 21 years and he enjoys restoring antique wooden boats, tennis, live music, fitness, and spends his free time at Lake Winnipesaukee. The AGD is a professional association of more than 35,000 general dentists dedicated to staying up-to-date in the profession through continuing education. Founded in 1952, the AGD has grown to become the world’s second largest dental association, which is the only association that exclusively represents the needs and interests of general dentists. More than 772,000 persons are employed directly in the field of general
dentistry. A general dentist is the primary care provider for patients
of all ages and is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, management
and overall coordination of services related to patients’ oral health
needs. For more information about the AGD, please visit www.agd.org.
