What to do if you have an accident and lose a tooth
If
you have been in an accident which has made you lose your tooth, don’t
panic. Staying calm and reacting quickly may help you save your tooth.
If it is possible, find the tooth, pick it up by the top (the "crown"),
rinse it without scrubbing, and gently place it back in it’s socket. If
you cannot get it into the socket, or if you do not feel comfortable placing
it back into the socket, place the tooth in a glass of milk and contact
our office immediately. Try to control swelling of the affected area by
using a cold compress or ice. If your tooth has not been completely removed,
but feels loose, gently nudge the tooth back into its normal position
and bite down on a clean cloth so the tooth can’t move or wiggle, use
ice to control swelling and call Dr. Hopgood as soon as possible.
