Inhalation Sedation
Inhalation
sedation, commonly referred to as nitrous, nitrous oxide, or laughing
gas, is a safe, controlled sedation technique performed in our office.
Nitrous oxide has been used in medicine and clinical dentistry since the
early 1840’s and is a safe and popular sedative used by dentists today.
Mostly used to combat anxiety towards dental treatment, combinations of
nitrous oxide and oxygen gases are inhaled by the patient by way of a
rubber mask which is placed over their nose. The gas produces a feeling
of comfort and contentment allowing the patients to have dental work completed
with ease. The effects of the gas wear off quickly upon removal, permitting
our patients to easily drive back to work or continue with their normal
daily routine.
