Intraoral Cameras
Patients
rarely have a clear idea of the actual status of their dental health.
Even with lights and mirrors, it's tough to see what the dentist sees.
First developed in 1987, the intraoral camera is an indispensable diagnostic
and educational tool. The tiny device (about the size of a traditional
dental drill) is a video camera that the doctor or hygienist moves around
the mouth for a comprehensive tooth by tooth examination. The image, which
is magnified up to 40 times its original size, suddenly allows you and
Dr. Hopgood to see the same details of teeth that have fractures, gum
recession, enamel chips, plaque build-up, and teeth with old restorations
(fillings) that are starting to breakdown. The images are projected onto
a television monitor placed in the operatory for the doctor to discuss
his findings and develop a treatment plan just for you. Later, the images
are printed, stored in your record, and can be sent to your insurance
company for a pre-determination of benefits or to appeal a denied claim.
