Veneers

Porcelain veneers, often referred to as veneers or porcelain laminates, are slender shells of porcelain which are bonded onto the front side of teeth to make a cosmetic improvement in their appearance. Two appointments are necessary to make a veneer. The first is to prepare the tooth, take impressions and construct a temporary. The second appointment is to cement the veneer to the tooth after being fabricated at the laboratory.

Porcelain veneers are routinely used to correct teeth that are discolored, worn, chipped, or misaligned. Although porcelain is inherently brittle, when it is firmly bonded to a tooth it becomes very strong and durable.

Crowns vs. Veneers

Because crowns require more tooth structure removal, they cover more of the tooth than veneers. Crowns are stationary and are normally used for teeth that have sustained significant loss of structure or to replace missing teeth.
